Halloween Treat

I should NEVER have started the crossword puzzle.

The game’s title: Solve the Trick For A Halloween Treat caught me.

First clue. Witch’s brew. Six down. “Ohh.”

Five across. #13: Vampire’s refreshing drink.

“Easy as bats fly.” I gripped my pencil.

Clue #31: Spider’s snare for curious children. “How weird.” Six letters. Second

letter an O. “Spiders make…I got it!”

“Cobwebs don’t catch children. RATS!” I tried erasing it, but couldn’t.

Jaws snapped. “Wrong answer. You needed COCOON.”

The puzzle lines spun outward, ensnaring me.

     “Now you’re my treat.”

     I struggled. “NOOOOOO!”

What a fantastic and original premise! The crossword jargon and design are woven in so creatively with the Halloween touches that they reel us into the story, all the way to its spectacularly scary ending. Spooktacular! @AnneLipton
